Accepting Submissions for the 2021 Volume
We are now accepting submissions for our next volume of the LGBTQ Policy Journal, which will be published in the spring of 2021. We welcome pitches from people with a wide range backgrounds who are interested in contributing to the discussion of policies that impact LGBTQ people through a variety of formats. We are actively encouraging submissions from all people – community members, activists, academics, students from HKS and from other institutions. Submissions can be at any stage in the writing process – from a vague idea to a completed piece – so please feel free to submit a pitch even if you are only in the brainstorming phase of your writing process!
Submissions may take the form of research, reviews, interviews or dialogues, recounting of lived experience connected to LGBTQ policy, retelling of advocacy efforts surrounding policy change, and/or art and other personal expression. Topics can cover issues in the United States, in other countries, or globally.
Potential formats include:
– Policy analyses and recommendations aimed at a broad audience
– Op-eds / opinion pieces (including cultural criticism and commentary
– Research articles
– Personal narrative articles
– Interviews with scholars, community leaders, students, activists, or political actors
– Creative content such as poems, photo essays, illustrations, artwork, etc.
The submission form can be found here. The deadline to submit a pitch is November 18, 2020. We will make a decision on which pitches we will be able to publish by November 25, 2020. If your pitch is accepted, the first draft of your piece will be due on December 16, 2020. You will work with a member of our editorial board to polish your piece. We are aiming to publish the journal around May of 2021.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us as lgbtq_journal@hks.harvard.edu. We are happy to answer any questions. We’re looking forward to seeing your submissions.
